Uncle Howard and Auntie Jungha…our first visitors! Although we’re having a great time experiencing things here in our new country, it’s always nice to have a piece of home in a new environment. I realized that this is the first time my brother, Howard, and I have been in Taiwan together since we were children. Luckily, Howard and Jungha got into Taipei a day before Philip had to leave on a two week work trip, so we forewent our usual $2.65 dinner from the roasted chicken stall and went all out and got takeaway from the famous Din Tai Fung restaurant. For those of you familiar with Din Tai Fung, I know what you’re thinking — yes, it’s true, Din Tai Fung has takeaway!!
We were especially moved by Howard and Jungha coming to see us, since Jungha is about six months along in her pregnancy, and she was a real trooper carrying that baby around in this heat. Jules was so excited to see them both and spent half the time just chatting up a storm in their room and playing his current favorite game, Uno, with them. Of course, with two more foodies in the mix, we did our fair share of eating way too much food. We had big banquet style dinners with the Lee family (my mom’s side of the family) and with the Chu family (my godfamily), and Jules took them to his favorite bubble tea joint (春水堂), which just so happens to serve up some delicious food. Since this is Jules’ favorite place, I felt it was only right to give it its own post.
On their last day in Taipei, Howard and Jungha woke up at an uncivilized time to take Jules to school, which was so sweet. It was a really wonderful visit, and we were sad to see them go. But, we’ll be flying out to LA in December to give them some helping hands and to cuddle our new niece/cousin. Yay, new baby smell!
